Brisbane All Star Cheerleading 2012 Wrap Up
Brisbane All Star Cheerleading had an amazing 2012 season. Our 2nd On Sunday the 11th of November we hosted our 2nd annual BASC Day at our Enoggera venue. All teams including stunt groups and partner stunts performed for their family and friends which was a great way to cap off an incredible year. Complementing the celebrations, were a BBQ and raffle (with prizes donated by one of our very generous families) from which the club raised over $550.00 for Camp Quality. I would like to say a huge thank you to all those people who helped out on the day to bring together what was a very smooth and well organised event!
I would also like to take this opportunity to make a mention of some of the great achievements of BASC athletes over the past year:
Mini Cheer and Pom
Mini's have had a great year under the eye of Coach Louise Ferrero and Assistant Junior Coach Cassie Perceval. All their efforts culminated at the Australasian Majors competition held at Chandler Arena within the Sleeman Sports Complex in November 2012. The team achieved 1st Place in Mini Cheer (level 1) and 2nd Place in Mini Pom! Great job and amazing year Minis, I know you all made some fantastic friends this year!
Youth Cheer and Pom
I have seen these young ladies grow into some hardworking and determined athletes throughout 2012. With the help of Assistant Coach Emily Stroud, we have taken this energetic bunch of 7 – 9 year olds and put them in over their heads against many cheerleaders aged up to 11 years old!The team’s most notable success was their 2nd Placing at the AASCF QLD States Competition in Cheer (level 1). This was the biggest competition in Queensland this year and they nailed their routine. It definitely showed on the scorecard and the judges’ comments gave special attention to their enthusiasm and knowledge of their routine. Age was not a limiting factor here. The Youth team demonstrated that hard work and listening to your coaches (no matter how nit-picky they might be about the small things) pays off at the end of the day!
Junior Cheer and Pom
Junior Cheer and Pom teams both had some great results in 2012, including a 1st in Junior Pom at DUSC also 1st in Junior Cheer at AASCF Winterfest under the guidance of Coach Louise Ferrero. Junior Pom has placed top 3 in every competition entered this year! These two teams comprise of dedicated, bright young athletes with a great enthusiasm for cheer. We look forward to developing these teams throughout 2013.
Teen Cheer (level 1)
Teen 1 was quite frankly a great bunch of athletes: great friends (who started majority without knowing one other), great teammates and a great success in 2012! Their most notable success was coming equal 2nd place at the AASCF QLD States Competition, which was a very competitive and difficult division. This team would never stop working, and this ethic showed in their ability to hit stunts at training in a plethora of alternate stunting
combinations. Teen 1 demonstrated through 2012 that solid basics make you a supreme cheerleader. We are looking forward to seeing what these girls can achieve with more hard work in 2013!
Teen Cheer (level 2)
This team comprised of a combination of athletes from the Teen level 1 team in 2011 and athletes completely new to cheer, all working on new level 2 skills. Teen 2 travelled to Sydney to compete at AASCF Nationals in October 2012 which was the biggest competition in Australian History! This was our first club trip interstate and I would like to thank the parent helpers and the Adult team for assisting us in running such a great trip.The team placed 6th at AASCF Nationals which is a great effort in itself, as it is a highly contested division. We have had a few bumps along the way, primarily due to being such a large team. The picture below is of the Teen 2 pyramid and we really believe that it is impressive seeing so many girls in the air:

With teams this complex, changes that are inevitably essential can be difficult to facilitate. To the girls credit they kept a steady a determined resolve and produced some exceptional performances including a 2nd placing at Australasian Majors. The team gave it 100% at this competition and have
ultimately have developed into a strong, well-rounded group of young women we are proud to call BASC athletes!
Adult Cheer (Level 2)
Adult Cheer is a team for 17+ athletes (finished secondary school and beyond) and is a small but dedicated group of athletes. This group started the
year with athletes from a variety of skill levels, from those with cheerleading experience to those completely new to the sport but this was never
a limiting factor for the Adults. Everyone worked together well and encouraged one another. Their persistence and determination makes them great role models for the younger athletes of the club.
This team has had an amazing, fun year of cheer! It has been a great way to get some fitness in and also have a laugh after a busy day with friends. One of their most notable results was their 1st Placing at AASCF QLD Winterfest, and although they didn’t place at AASCF Nationals we were very
pleased with the overall team effort and performance as we knew they gave it 100%.
Senior Pom
The Senior Pom team comprised of a mixture of Teen and Adult athletes, primarily those new to cheerleading, some with limited dance training. This was our first year entering this division as a club and we received some fantastic results throughout 2012 including: 3rd at DUSC (June), 1st in AASCF QLD Winterfest (July), 2nd in AASCF QLD States (August), 4that AASCF Nationals (October), 2nd in Australasian Majors (November). This
team only trains for one hour per week and put in a great effort at these competitions, slowly growing more confident as the year went on. As their
coach, Helena was particularly impressed with how they grew together as a team and adapted to routine changes prior to the final two competitions in 2012. To wrap up a successful year, the team performed their Pom Routine to Gangnam Style (a Senior Pom favourite) for family and friends at BASC Day which is featured below!

The Brilliance team has continued to work on their cheer and pom skills and always has fun along the way. We entered several competitions this in

This year Brilliance has introduced a kick line, more jumps and even angel lifts and knee stands (though practiced separately to the routine). The development of team work skills and camaraderie amongst this group has been fantastic. A special mention must go to the Brilliance Buddies who dedicated a lot of time this year to helping the athletes with trainings (Louise Ferrero, Emily Stroud, Caitlin Druery, Rowena Kinzett, Jaymi-Leigh Swift, Cassie Perceval). Support from the Buddies, Brilliance parents and BASC community help make this team possible and we hope you all know that we do recognise and appreciate the efforts you all put in to make it come together. Finally, to the athletes in this team, you too had your share of routine changes due to extenuating circumstances, even with changes on competition day but you never let this affect you. Your love of cheerleading was evident on the competition floor and you gave it your all. These are the signs of great athletes in the making and we look forward to developing this team in 2013 (and possibly offering a younger age group in addition to this current team).
Group Stunt and Partner Stunts
Last but not least we would like to give mention to the Group Stunts and Partner Stunt athletes in 2012. These athletes built upon stunting foundation skills developed within their cheerleading team trainings. Improvements were made from week to week with many good results (too many to mention)! We look forward to building on these skills within the November – December Open Stunt and Advanced Stunt (Levels 3 – 5) classes and further into 2013.
I would like to thank all those involved in Brisbane All Star Cheerleading in 2012 and look forward to seeing you all again very soon! Term One 2012!
Term one has drawn to a close and I believe it is a time to reflect on our achievements leading into term two. Everyone has put in hard work and I think the majority of you can see this paying off, whether it be from getting new tumbling and stunting skills or just forming friendships with your teammates. There is such a positive vibe around BASC and if we continue with high levels of perfect attendance there is no limit to what all our teams can achieve this year!
I would like to update everyone about the Brilliance team. They have kicked it up a notch and have begun to learn stunting and tumbling skills this term. The girls are finding their roles and embracing these new skills with the help of BASC Coach Louise Ferrero and Teen Athletes Cassie Perceval and Caitlin Druery. Thank you for your help this term.
I have some other news which I would like to share with the club. In February Coach Michael Jew was selected as a member of Co-Ed Team Australia (Level 5) which would have been travelling to the USA this April to compete in the International Cheer Union Cheerleading Worlds competition. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond the organiser’s control, Australia did not end up taking the co-ed team to worlds this year. On behalf of everyone at BASC I would like to congratulate Coach Michael on this fantastic achievement because to be selected is a great honour in itself. We expect to see you out there representing Australia in 2013!
With everything falling into place for an incredible 2012 season it is full steam ahead for everyone at BASC! Bring on Term Two! In the words of

Minis take out 1st place at AASCF QLD States! (August 2011)
The trophy is almost as big as they are!
Following up from our 2nd placing in the Mini Pom division at AASCF Winterfest in July this year, the Brisbane All Star Mini Team produced a 1st placed performance! Everyone in this team should be very proud of themselves as they have been working hard every Saturday on the judge’s suggestions that definitely helped them towards the win. Nationals are now only just around the corner and we know that we will again improve upon our skills, and put forward an even better showcase of our skills.
Congratulations girls you earned it! Also thank you to the parents for supporting us so far this year and throughout event days.
Teens Debut! (August 2011)
Level 1 Teens Pyramid transition.
Over the weekend of the 28th and 29th of August the newly crowned Georgia Done (c) and Abbie Cupples (vc) lead the Brisbane All Star Teen Team to the AASCF States Competition. These athletes with the exception of one are brand new to cheerleading this year! They managed to place 3rd in a highly skilled Level 1 Teen division! All the girls had a blast and I must say the way in which you represented our club on and off the mat was extremely pleasing so keep it up! With some more polish and hard work I know our next competitions will be even more successful! Well done!
Our BASC Stars of the Day must go to the girls who competed in Level 1 Teen Group Stunt division. Your winning routine received amazing comments from the judges! We would like to thank the FAD girls for putting a great routine up in this division, as it kept us on the edge of our seats until presentations!

AASCF Brisbane Winterfest (July 2011)
Firstly we would like to say a big thank you to the Adult Team for helping with setup and pack down of the sprung floor at the recent AASCF Winterfest competition. You represented your club well both on and off the mat.
Our BASC Stars of the Day were the Brilliance team, who were awarded first place in their first ever competition! A standing ovation says it all, and you deserve it for all your hard work so far this year. A special mention must also go to the Brisbane All Star Minis. They did very well and placed second in the Mini Pom division out of four very good entries. It was also their first time competing. We are so proud of you!
Thank you to all BASC members, family and friends for your support, especially for your AMAZING crowd support! Finally, thank you to the AASCF staff for your help with making the day run smoothly for the Brilliance Team. It was a superb day of cheer and dance.

Nationals Gold 2010
Helena and Michael traveled to Melbourne to compete in the Australian All Star Cheer and Dance Championships at the end of October. Despite some adversity (Michael's broken jaw from his rugby grand final in mid-August this year) they entered the Level Two Partner Stunt division. The competition was great and they were delighted to be awarded Brisbane Cheerleading's first ever trophy for 1st place!
The competition division included interstate teams from Victoria, Australian Capital Territory and Queensland. It was a hard fought contest and everyone did extremely well. We know this will be the first of many great competitions involving Brisbane Cheerleading athletes! Bring on 2011!
